Why all the adverts on the site?
Posted by daveb on July 2nd, 2007
Having adverts contributes a little towards the running costs of this site. Hopefully, we’ve designed and coloured them in such a way that they are not distracting. We’re unlikely to get mega-bucks (here’s hoping), but it’s better than a kick in the teeth.
If you buy stuff online, it’s likely that you can help us in a little way, which we appreciate in a big way. How?
We’ve built relationships with some of the big retailers on the Internet who have agreed to pay us a small percentage (typically 1-5%) of the sales that they make from new customers that come to them through this site. The selling price that you pay to them is not affected in any way by this relationship, so you can be assured that the small cut that we make comes out of the retailer’s coffers and not yours. Here are the retailers that we’ve currently got relationships with:
- Amazon.co.uk – mostly for products that you can pick-up and throw, like books, DVDs, equipment.
- Lastminute.com – all things travel and experience related. SQ & I have used them a lot and particularly like their Top Secret Hotels deals in which top London hotels secretly offer their plush rooms online with a discount of up to 75% off the rack rate!
- Expedia.co.uk – another great travel booking site. Many a cheap weekend city break has been had here.
- Hostelbookers.com – guarantee your hostel bed before you arrive at your destination.
Each time you want to buy something from one of these sites, all you need to do is follow the link above or to the left on the menu bar and then shop as normal. By using this link the retailer will know that you’ve been referred by us and will automatically send us our dues, with no further effort from you. We’d really appreciate you supporting us in this way; it would mean a lot to us.
Maybe there are some other big online stores that you regularly buy through? If so, and you’d like to contribute (for free) to our adventure then please post a comment or drop me an e-mail and I’ll see if the firm is interested in joining our party!
In summary:
What’s in it for us; daveb & Squiffy?
Whilst we’re unlikely to become dot com millionaires out of this, if we can make a few bucks to help offset the cost of posting these messages at Internet cafes then we’ll be really happy.
What’s in it for the retailer?
They get introduced to a prospective customer who might have taken their trade elsewhere.
What’s in it for you, the dear reader?
You get to contribute–at no extra cost–to our adventure and further motivate us to take the time and effort to continue writing this blog. You can feel great that you’ve made a positive difference to our lives. Again, it’s worthing repeating that you are not penalised in any way on price, service, etc. for helping us in this way.
Thanks for listening and have a great day!
